Cruising Main Street in Ault, Colorado

I thought I would give you all a taste of what you are missing in the exciting town of Ault. There are two bars, four restaurants, one bank, one grocery store, one hair salon, one barbershop, a video store, and two gas stations (one even has a subway in it), and last but not least one set of stop lights.

Does it say the wicked will burn in the scriptures?

Today, after our track meet we had a luncheon in the Home Ec. Cottage. The following story illustrates how old my school really is. As we were finishing up our lunch, there was a loud pop and one of the light bulbs (one of the long ones) burned out and caught on fire. Flames and smoke were visible! I think I was the only one that was panicking internally, everyone else just said turn off the lights and don't turn it back on till Monday when it could be fixed.

Last week during CSAPs (CO standardized test) the classroom I was in started to smell like a match had been. The teacher that the classroom belongs to, said it was something with the electrical and that it has happened before. So, we just changed classrooms.

My classroom is in the picture on the bottom. It is adjacent to the library and about a 30 sec. walk to the main building. So, I get plenty of exercise everyday.

World's Longest Classroom

Despite the many tourist attractions in Ault, Colorado, I figure most of you will never have the opportunity to experience the Highland High School campus tour. So, I decided to take some pictures of my classroom. My classroom is located in the building just north of the main building and is adjacent to the school library. There is a partition in my room that creates two small but separate classrooms. Since I never use the partition, I have an extremely long classroom. I always feel bad for the student that has to sit in the very back, but they don't seem to mind (shocking, I know). Next year I am moving into the main building. I don't mind being next to the library, but I hate the layout of my classroom. So, when negotiating my job for next year, I threw in that I want to be in the main building and I wasn't going to take NO for an answer! Well, it didn't quite happen that way, but I am moving into the main building.

Tumbleweed NASCAR Races

Did you ever say as a kid "There's nothing to do in this city, I'm bored." Well, I learned the actual meaning of boredom recently. A student of mine told me that for fun she and other students bet on and watched two tumbleweeds race while waiting for the bus. Now that is excitement! And it is a good description of just how rural my school really is.

Wet in Seattle

What exactly does the term "wet" mean. In Seattle it has meant I am wet from rain, hail, pee, poop, and spit up. It has been a great week hanging out with my new nephew, Evan, and niece, Greta. I can almost change a diaper all by myself without panicking. I have also created another alias for my secret life as a Ninja...the "Burp Whisper".
