Did you ever say as a kid "There's nothing to do in this city, I'm bored." Well, I learned the actual meaning of boredom recently. A student of mine told me that for fun she and other students bet on and watched two tumbleweeds race while waiting for the bus. Now that is excitement! And it is a good description of just how rural my school really is.

Appreciate the tumbleweed as a definitive sign of "rural" - altho we had one in our backyard in Claremont, CA (not "rural") and I was fascinated to see a snowman constructed of 3 tumbleweeds (Christmas decor) - ingenuity and creativity at work!
Wow, you're school really is in a little town. At least your students can have fun with what's been given to them.
